A veteran performer at international level, Ooijer made his debut way back in 1999, yet he has so far failed to cement his spot in the Dutch side. Moving from PSV to Blackburn may not have helped this as he has struggled to settle in England since his arrival in August 2006.

Ooijer claimed that his move away from PSV was caused by the club having reneged on their proposed 3-year extension for him and that if the club has not done so, he would have continued to play in the Eredivisie, but Mark Hughes is happy to have him at Blackburn.

A versatile defender, the fact that he slots into a full-back or centre-back role with ease makes him a useful man to have around the squad.
