Bentley’s Arsenal career effectively came to an end on transfer deadline day in August 2005 when he moved to Blackburn Rovers on loan for the season.

Only a couple of weeks’ earlier the young forward had handed in a transfer request at Highbury, which was accepted by boss Arsene Wenger, after failing to make an impression following his return from an indifferent loan spell at Norwich City in 2004/05.

Following a good first half to the campaign the deal was made permanent, for an undisclosed fee, as the transfer window closed in January 2006.
