Neill was one of Millwall’s best players, and a real Mr Versatile to boot. He can turn up in defence, on both sides of midfield and in attack. His natural talent and confidence are there in abundance, but a history of niggling injuries has hampered him.

Nevertheless, Neill, who joined the Lions from Aussie outfit AIS in November 1995, brought an extra dimension to the side with his skill on, and intelligent use of, the ball, and he is quick and incisive coming forward.

As with many of his team-mates, Neill attracted the interest of Premiership clubs, and in August 2001 he handed in a transfer request.
