Tugay is a player who first came to British shores in January 2001 when Scottish giants Rangers snapped him up from Galatasaray.

However, the Turkish international never really settled at Ibrox and in the summer of 2001 newly-promoted Blackburn Rovers were the team that came forward to clinch his signature in a £1.3million deal.

At first there were problems with the transfer as the Department of Employment refused his application for a work permit – but he was granted the right to play for Rovers on appeal.
