Campo, a look-a-like of comedian Alan Davies, finally signed for Bolton Wanderers on transfer deadline day in August 2002 after a long, drawn out transfer saga.

Trotters boss Sam Allardyce actually started negotiations to sign the Spain international on a season-long loan two months earlier.

Bolton desperately tried to come up with a personal terms package that would attract Campo, and just days before he agreed to the move the club had accepted defeat. But a last-ditch bid to land the player paid off.
