Charlton Athletic moved in to sign Bent in June 2005 after Ipswich Town had failed to win promotion to the Premiership.
The England Under-21 striker was always likely to move on if the Tractor Boys had failed to win a return to the big time. Some of his performances in the Championship, as Town lost out to Sunderland and Wigan in the race for automatic promotion, were out of the top drawer.
