Matt Holland is a player who grew in stature during Ipswich Town’s superb Premiership season in 2000/01, when they finished fifth in the table.

His performances in the centre of the park earned him a regular place in the Republic of Ireland side – even though he was actually born in Bury.

Holland began his career in West Ham, and was also a fan of the East London club, signing professional terms in 1992. But he failed to make an impression with the Hammers and was loaned out to AFC Bournemouth in January 1995.
