JChelsea ended a three-year pursuit of one of the world’s greatest players when signing Andriy Shevchenko prior to the start of the 2006 World Cup.
The Ukraine international, who had been friends with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for many years, moved to Stamford Bridge for a fee of £30million from Serie A giants AC Milan.
The signing of Sheva was seen as the final piece in the jigsaw for the Premiership champions, providing them with a true world class striker to add to the undoubted quality across the rest of the park.
