Miller, a player who emerged at Leeds as a teenage of immense potential, found his progressed hampered after leaving West Yorkshire for Newcastle United.

The player moved to St James’ Park in July 2004 following Leeds’ relegation to the Football League amid financial turmoil. But Sir Bobby Robson, the manager who signed him for the Magpies, was sacked within weeks.

The midfielder struggled to impress new boss Graeme Souness, starting just 13 Premiership games in his first season at the club.
