Johnson’s career thus far has been been one of disappointment since he was bought by Claudio Ranieri from West Ham United for £6 million, as the first purchase of the Abramovich era at Chelsea.
An attack minded full-back, Chelsea have loaned the youngster to the resurgent Portsmouth for the 2006/07 season and he has been part of a very successful defence at the start of the season.
Moving to Chelsea as one of the most promising young full-back in England, he was seen as the natural successor to Gary Neville in the England side.
