Mendes ended his short stay with Tottenham Hotspur in January 2006 when joining Harry Redknapp’s rescue mission at Portsmouth.
The midfielder moved to Fratton Park in a deal worth a reputed £7million which also included Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot.
Despite being a regular in the Spurs side in 2004/05, he fell out of favour in 2005/06 after manager Martin Jol had again strengthened his midfield.
