Ingimarsson came to the English game in October 1999 with Torquay United after spells in his homeland with IBV Vestmann and Valur Reykjavik.
The strong midfielder impressed during a loan spell on the south coast, alerting interest from Brentford – and the Bees came to snatch the player by signing him for £150,000 a month later.
The Iceland international soon became a fans’ favourite at Griffin Park with a number of fine displays in the centre of the park, but his refusal to sign a new contract meant he was sure to move on in the summer of 2002 – despite being named as Player of the Year.
