A promising midfielder who was born just up the road in Leeds and came through the youth ranks with Sheffield United, Montgomery broke into the first team in October 2000 when facing Norwich City at Carrow Road. United lost the game 4-2.

Became an important member of the first team in the following months and has made over 200 League and Cup appearances for the Blades.

He battled back from a broken leg earlier in his career to become an integral member of the Blades promotion winning side in 2005/06 and he was named runner-up to Phil Jagielka in the club’s Player of Year awards.
