Aaron Lennon’s superb performances for Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the 2005/06 season earned the ultimate reward – a place in the England squad for the World Cup finals with only 21 Premiership starts to his name.

Despite still being only 19-years-old and never before having his name uttered in relation to the full national side, Lennon’s displays had been so impressive many considered his selection a formality by the end of the campaign.

With pace his major attribute, his ability to keep the ball close to his feet and mesmerise defences made him one of the most popular faces at White Hart Lane. A creative master at such a young age, he showed to potential to be a secret weapon for England.
