Despite his relatively diminutive size, Zokora is a tough tackling defensive midfielder who was signed by Martin Jol as a replacement for Michael Carrick after the England man moved to Manchester United for £18.6 million in the summer.
Using his strength and an excellent positional awareness, Zokora’s ball winning talents at the 2006 World Cup alerted a host of clubs to his skills and he chose Tottenham as his preferred destination in June.
Starting in the Ivory Coast, Zokora moved to Belgium where he played for KRC Genk before heading to the French Ligue 1 with AS Saint-Étienne in the summer of 2004.
