Gabbidon was considered to be one of the best defenders outside of the Premiership for a number of years before finally earning a chance to play in the top division.

He joined West Ham United for an undisclosed fee from Cardiff City in July 2005.

The Championship is a very good league and I felt that I’ve learned a lot there, but every player wants to play against the top teams in the Premier League and I’m just delighted to have that chance,’ Gabbidon said after completing his move to Upton Park.
