Tennis

Tennis, through the years, changed from a pure sport during the era of the Andre AgassiPete Sampras wars to the ”Hollywood” flavor of the Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharpova days.

Yes, tennis sure has changed but no one’s complaining. What’s to complain anyway? ”Hollywood athletes” like Andy Roddick, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova do have their own sets of fans that come to every game.

Because of these new breed of tennis players, bringing with them a new sense of mentality, the mature audience of businessmen and entrepreneurs are now being replaced by teenagers trying to catch a glimpse of their favorite tennis icons.

Tennis Players

Roger Federer (born August 8, 1981) is a Swiss male tennis professional, currently ranked World No. 1. Many experts and his own peers believe Federer may be the greatest player in history.
Federer has won ten Grand Slam men’s singles titles in 31 appearances, three Tennis Masters Cup titles, and 13 ATP Masters Series titles. In 2004, the Swiss became the first man since Mats Wilander in 1988 to win three of four Grand Slam singles tournaments in the same year: the Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open. In 2006, he became the first and only man to repeat this feat and the first man in the open era to win at least ten singles tournaments in three consecutive years.[6] He is also the only player to have won both the Wimbledon and U.S.

Rafael “Rafa” Nadal Parera (IPA: [rafa'el na'al]) (born June 3, 1986, in Manacor, Mallorca) is a Spanish professional tennis player. As of April 2007, he is ranked second in the world. He is a two time Grand Slam champion, having won two consecutive French Open singles titles (2005-2006). Nadal holds the longest winning streak among male players on a single surface in the open era. From April 2005 to May 2007, he won 81 consecutive clay court matches.

Maria Yuryevna Sharapova (born April 19, 1987) is a Russian professional tennis player. At the end of 2006, she was the world’s highest-paid female athlete.
Sharapova has won two Grand Slam singles titles. She is the reigning U.S. Open champion, having defeated Justine Henin in the final of the 2006 U.S. Open. Two years earlier, she defeated Serena Williams in the final at Wimbledon.
